Moor Park Methodist Church, Victorian Methodist church in Garstang Road, Preston, England
Moor Park Methodist Church is a church building in Italianate style on Garstang Road in Preston. The rectangular plan features a semicircular portico with square columns, and inside there is a cast iron gallery supported by octagonal columns with tall windows and rounded arch details throughout.
Architects Poulton and Woodman designed this building, which opened in 1862 with space for about 900 worshippers. Later, the building was given to another religious community, which reflected the changing population of Preston.
The building shows how important the Methodist movement was in Northern England through its visible architecture and interior layout designed for gatherings and community meetings. The tall windows and open gallery made it possible for many people to worship together.
The building keeps its original features and details, with good natural light from the tall windows that helps you see the space clearly. The architectural details are visible from all areas inside.
The building was converted into a mosque in 1986 and has served another faith community for many years since. This change shows how religious practice and communities in the city shifted over time.
