Farringford House, Victorian country house in Freshwater, England
Farringford House displays Gothic architectural elements with distinct features including turreted staircases, detailed stone carvings, and large bay windows across its facade.
Built in 1806 and purchased in 1856, this residence became the primary home of Alfred Lord Tennyson, England's Poet Laureate, until his death in 1892.
The estate maintains Tennyson's second library from 1871, containing original furnishings and personal artifacts that reflect Victorian literary traditions.
Visitors can access guided tours from April through October, with the option to stay in ten self-catering cottages located within the estate grounds.
The restored walled garden contains plant species documented in Emily Tennyson's journal, maintaining the exact botanical collection from the Victorian period.
