Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft

The Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft displays collections of local artworks, typography designs, and handmade objects across restored 18th-century buildings. The spaces flow through several connected houses that give a sense of how creative work once occupied everyday domestic spaces.

The museum was established in 1985 to preserve the legacy of an artistic community that had flourished in the village since the early 20th century. A major restoration of the buildings in the early 2010s allowed the collections to be properly displayed and the spaces to be made accessible to visitors.

The place is rooted in a design movement that valued handmade objects and artistic skill above mass production. You can see this philosophy reflected in how the collections are displayed and the care taken with every detail.

The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday and on Sundays, and lies just a few minutes from the village center on foot. The buildings are connected by paved paths that make it easy to move between the different galleries at your own pace.

The grounds include an art shop in the Cart Lodge building where you can buy handmade works by local makers. Sales from the shop directly support both the artists and the museum's ongoing work.
