Statue of Mary Seacole, Bronze statue at St Thomas' Hospital, London, United Kingdom
The statue portrays Mary Seacole advancing forward while carrying medical supplies, with a large bronze disc measuring 4.9 meters behind her figure.
After twelve years of fundraising efforts, the statue was unveiled on June 30, 2016, becoming the first memorial to honor a named Black woman in Britain.
The sculpture represents the British-Jamaican nurse who established medical facilities near the frontlines during the Crimean War despite institutional barriers.
Located in the gardens of St Thomas' Hospital facing the Houses of Parliament, the statue weighs over 6.5 tons including the bronze disc.
The statue features a vertical disc cast with an image of Earth, marking the location where Seacole operated her British Hotel during wartime.
