Sea Life London Aquarium, Public aquarium near London Eye, England
The Sea Life London Aquarium is a public aquarium near the London Eye that spreads across three levels with fourteen themed areas housing over 500 marine animals from different waters and habitats. The facility connects display tanks, touch pools and transparent tunnel sections into a continuous route.
The aquarium opened in March 1997 and focused from the outset on protection and education about marine life. Over the following years, several areas were redesigned and new species added to bring current topics in marine biology closer to visitors.
The name reflects its location on the South Bank, where the building became part of a wider entertainment complex. Families and school groups come here to observe animals like rays, penguins and jellyfish at close range.
Visitors can buy tickets online with a considerable price reduction and avoid waiting times at the entrance. The facility is designed for barrier-free access, so wheelchairs and strollers can reach all areas.
The glass tunnel runs beneath a tank where sharks and large rays swim directly above visitors' heads. Those who walk slowly here can follow the play of light and shadow on the floor as the animals pass by.
