Shell Centre

Shell Centre is a 26-story tower at Belvedere Road that rises 107 meters and features a light stone facade with bronze-toned window frames throughout. The complex includes office spaces, retail areas, and public zones designed to function as a unified whole.

The tower opened in 1962 on a site that became available after the 1951 exposition closed. This development signaled London's shift toward postwar modernization and corporate expansion along the Thames.

The tower shapes London's South Bank skyline and stands as a recognizable landmark for people moving through the riverside area. Its presence anchors this part of the city where cultural venues and public spaces gather around it.

Workers uncovered traces of an old railway tunnel beneath the site during construction, a project conceived in the 1860s that never entered service. These hidden remnants reveal London's forgotten attempts at engineering innovation from the Victorian era.
