Ashton Under Lyne Town Hall, Grade II listed civic building in Tameside, England.
Ashton Under Lyne Town Hall is a Neoclassical building on Katherine Street with a symmetrical front and seven window sections. Prominent Corinthian columns support an ornate inscribed entablature that defines the formal appearance of the structure.
Architect Charles Lee designed the building, which was completed in 1840 to serve the city's growing administrative needs. In 1878, William Young extended the western section to provide additional space for town operations.
The building once housed the Museum of the Manchester Regiment, which displayed military items and honors from soldiers in the region. Visitors could experience the local military heritage within these walls.
The building sits in central Ashton-under-Lyne and is easy to reach on foot from the main shopping areas. Visitors should check ahead for opening times or special events since access may vary depending on official functions.
Two Turkish cannons captured during the 1897 conflict were displayed outside and replaced earlier Russian Crimean War weapons. Those original cannons had been melted down during the Second World War effort.
