Norfolk State University is a public institution in Norfolk, Virginia, with academic buildings, research labs, and residence halls spread across a connected campus. The grounds also hold a football stadium and several open spaces between the different schools.

The institution offers the only undergraduate program in optical engineering in the state. Graduates later work in specialist fields from laser technology to fiber optics.
