The Gardens at SIUE extends across 35 acres, featuring numerous plant collections, water elements, and walking paths throughout the university campus grounds.
Dean Donal Myer initiated the garden project in April 1990, following Environmental Sciences Professor Frank Kulfinski's suggestion to implement the original university plans.
The gardens function as an educational center where students conduct research in biology, environmental science, and agriculture while learning about plant species.
Visitors can access the gardens through Arboretum Lane along Cougar Lake Road, with no entrance fees required for exploring the grounds.
The Missouri Botanical Gardens recognizes this location as a Signature Garden, which includes the Hardy Family Wind Forest containing kinetic sculptures.
