The Gardens at SIUE

The Gardens at SIUE is a botanical garden on the campus of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville that spans across extensive grounds with multiple plant collections. The garden includes water features and numerous pathways that guide visitors through the different cultivated areas.

The garden was founded in 1990 based on ideas developed by university professors and administrators. The project's realization followed long-term planning by the university to establish an extensive garden on campus.

The garden serves as a place where visitors can learn about different plant species and their characteristics through observation. People use the paths to walk between various planted areas while discovering the diversity of plant life on the grounds.

The garden is accessible via Arboretum Lane along Cougar Lake Road and admission is free for all visitors. Well-maintained pathways run throughout the grounds and make it easy to walk through all areas of the garden.

The garden holds the designation of a Signature Garden from the Missouri Botanical Gardens, reflecting its special importance. The grounds also feature a collection of moving art sculptures powered by wind within a wooded area.
