Indiana State University, Public university in Terre Haute, United States.
Indiana State University is a higher education institution in Terre Haute, Indiana, with around 60 buildings spread across roughly 200 acres (81 hectares). The Cunningham Memorial Library holds more than two million items and stands at the center of the campus alongside other teaching buildings.
The institution was founded in 1865 as Indiana State Normal School to train teachers. In 1965 it received university status after several name changes over the previous decades.
The campus carries the nickname "Trees" because of the many old trees lining the paths and standing between buildings. Students often meet under these trees or on the open lawns between classes.
Most buildings stand close together and can be reached on foot. Visitors can orient themselves at the information center in Normal Hall and get directions to individual facilities on the grounds.
The grounds house the Mollie Wheat Memorial Clinic, a facility for practical training of medical students in rural settings. This clinic belongs to the Rural Medical Education Program and works with real patients.
