Hydra the Revenge, Steel roller coaster at Dorney Park, Pennsylvania, United States.
Hydra the Revenge is a floorless steel coaster at Dorney Park where riders sit with legs dangling freely over the track. The ride takes passengers through seven inversions, including a heartline roll, inclined dive loop, zero-G roll, corkscrew, and cobra roll.
The ride opened in 2005, taking over the location where the wooden coaster Hercules operated until 2003. It was designed as a modern replacement to reimagine what thrilled riders at that same spot.
The name refers to Greek mythology, where the Lernaean Hydra regenerated its heads after Hercules attempted to defeat the creature.
The coaster reaches speeds around 53 mph along its roughly 1-mile track and has steep climbs throughout. Riders must meet a minimum height of about 54 inches, and visiting early on busy days helps avoid long wait times.
The ride starts with an inversion called the Jojo Roll that happens before the lift hill, which catches many visitors off guard. This unusual beginning makes the opening of the experience more surprising and intense than what riders typically expect.
