Sky Ride, Transporter bridge at Northerly Island, Chicago, United States.
The Sky Ride consisted of two 628-foot towers connected by a 1,850-foot span, with rocket-shaped cars suspended 215 feet above Burnham Harbor.
Built for the Century of Progress 1933 World's Fair, the Sky Ride was constructed by Robinson & Steinman engineering firm in just six months.
The double-decked rocket cars emitted steam to create an effect that represented technological advancement during the World's Fair exhibition period.
The transportation system moved 5,000 passengers per hour between towers using four elevators on each structure and carried 4.5 million visitors during its operation.
The structure required 2,000 tons of steel and 100 miles of cabling, making it one of only two transporter bridges ever constructed in the United States.
