Ronald DeFeo Jr killed six family members in the house on November 13, 1974, and received multiple life sentences. The Lutz family moved in about a year later and left after 28 days.

The address was changed from 112 to 108 to discourage curious visitors drawn by books and films about the location. Later owners modified the building's appearance with new windows and a different facade design.

The house is a private residence and cannot be visited. The neighborhood is residential and locals ask that their privacy be respected.

The Lutz family reported unexplained noises and temperature changes during their brief stay. Many researchers and skeptics have since questioned the family's claims about supernatural events.
