Cedar Beach

Cedar Beach is a sandy shore along Ocean Parkway with courts for basketball and handball alongside volleyball areas for visitors to use. A wooden boardwalk crosses the dune system, connecting different parts of the shoreline.

The beach grew as a recreation area to give the community access to the water and shoreline activities. A marine research center later based its operations here to monitor and study the waters of Long Island Sound.

The beach brings together locals and visitors who spend time by the water and walk through natural areas to watch birds and marine life along the shoreline.

The beach works best during warmer months when lifeguards are on duty and swimming conditions are safer for visitors. Visiting on less crowded days and during good weather makes walking the boardwalk and exploring the dunes more enjoyable.

The boardwalk features educational signs explaining local plant species and how coastal formations develop along this shore. These interpretive markers help visitors understand the natural environment while walking through the dunes.
