Belmont Lake State Park, State park with lake in North Babylon, United States
Belmont Lake State Park is a 463-acre protected area built around a natural spring-fed lake, with multiple walking trails, sports fields, and recreational facilities for outdoor activities. The space offers different options for visitors to explore nature and enjoy their time outdoors.
The land was originally part of a Thoroughbred horse farm owned by August Belmont before becoming a state park in 1926. Nine years later, it became the headquarters for Long Island's state parks system.
The park hosts seasonal celebrations for local families, such as pumpkin boat events and holiday gatherings held at four sheltered pavilions throughout the year. These occasions bring the community together and give the place a welcoming social character.
Boat rentals including pedal boats, rowboats, and kayaks are available from May through Columbus Day at a dock near the lake for those interested in water activities. The facilities work best on calm days, and visitors should plan accordingly to make the most of their visit.
A network of pathways connects the main lake to nearby ponds, creating multiple routes for those who want to explore beyond the central area. These connections lead to an unexpected river system that eventually reaches the coast.
