Sisters of St. Dominic Motherhouse Complex, Religious building complex in North Amityville, New York, United States.
The Sisters of St. Dominic Motherhouse Complex is a building ensemble with five structures, a cemetery, and a grotto on the grounds at 555 Albany Avenue. The main building, Rosary Hall, consists of multiple two-and-a-half-story sections and a chapel at its center.
The community was founded in 1853 and later relocated from Williamsburg, Brooklyn, to its current location. Most of the buildings were constructed between 1876 and 1878 during a phase of expansion for the complex.
The complex serves as the home of Dominican Sisters who dedicate themselves to education and community service in the region. The buildings reflect the religious life and values of these sisters, who have worked here for generations.
The complex sits on a larger property with multiple access points and walking paths throughout the grounds. Visitors should plan ahead, as access to some areas may be limited, and proper footwear is recommended for navigating the terrain.
Seraphina Cottage, built around 1850, displays Greek Revival features and served as the community's first novitiate building. This structure remains a testament to the early development and layout of the site.
