Cafe Hon, American restaurant in Hampden, Baltimore, United States
Cafe Hon is an American restaurant in Hampden, a neighborhood of Baltimore in the United States, which served traditional Maryland dishes. A large pink flamingo sculpture stood above the entrance and made the storefront easy to spot from the street.
Denise Whiting opened the establishment in 1992 and initially planned to operate only a few days each week while continuing her catering business. After thirty years of service, the restaurant closed in 2022, and the Foreman Wolf Restaurant Group took over the lease for future dining projects.
The name comes from 'hon', an affectionate word that Baltimore locals often use, and mirrors the regional speech and neighborly ties. The establishment became a symbol for Hampden and embodied the distinct way of life and language of this area for decades.
The restaurant is permanently closed, so a visit is no longer possible. Those interested in the building and its history can explore the exterior and the surrounding Hampden neighborhood.
The establishment appeared on the television show Kitchen Nightmares with Gordon Ramsay in February 2012 and gained widespread recognition as a result. The episode sparked conversations and drew many curious guests who knew the restaurant from the program.
