Estate Little Princess, human settlement in Christiansted, United States Virgin Islands, United States of America
Estate Little Princess is a plantation on Saint Croix island consisting of stone buildings, ruins, and natural vegetation spread across about 25 acres. The site displays the remains of a windmill, factory, and residential structures from its past as a sugar and rum production center.
The plantation was established in the mid-1700s under Danish rule and became a center for sugar and rum production. Slavery ended in 1848 following a local uprising, and the estate gradually fell into disrepair until it was later protected as a historic site.
Estate Little Princess carries in its stone walls and ruins the memory of people who lived and worked there centuries ago, their stories embedded in the architecture. The buildings show a blend of African and Danish building styles, reflecting the complex history of the place.
The estate is located northwest of Christiansted and is easily accessible by a small road leading directly to the site. Visitors can walk on trails, observe birds, and explore the ruins while staying on maintained pathways.
The site features the Coral Innovation Hub, a center housed in buildings made from natural sea materials, where scientists and community members gather to develop new ways to protect coral reefs. This project merges historic preservation with modern environmental conservation in a single location.
