Finger Lakes State Park, Off-road vehicle park near Columbia, Missouri, US.
Finger Lakes State Park is an off-road vehicle park in Missouri with more than 1,000 acres of reclaimed mining land containing interconnected lakes, rolling terrain, and linked trails. The park features more than 70 miles of routes for off-road motorcycles and ATVs, along with a water corridor spanning around 1.5 miles that offers swimming and scuba diving.
The area served as an active coal mining site between 1964 and 1967 before extraction operations ceased. It was then transformed into a recreational space with lakes and trails, becoming an example of successful land reclamation.
Following its transformation from a former mining area, this place shows how land can be brought back to life and now serves as a gathering spot for off-road vehicle enthusiasts from across the region.
The park offers good conditions for riding over rough terrain with clear routes and space for different skill levels. Visitors should bring proper protective gear and be aware that weather and ground conditions can change with the seasons.
The lakes in this park were created from former mining pits and now serve fishing, kayaking, and other water activities. This transformation of industrial damage into valuable water bodies is an unexpected benefit of the location.
