The park encompasses 1,128 acres of reclaimed mining land with interconnected lakes, steep hills, and extensive trails for motorized vehicles and mountain bikes.
From 1964 to 1967, the Peabody Coal Company operated the Mark Twain Mine at this location, extracting 1.2 million tons of coal through strip mining.
Following its transformation from a mining site, this park demonstrates successful land reclamation practices and provides recreational spaces for off-road vehicle enthusiasts.
Visitors can access more than 70 miles of trails designed for off-road motorcycles and ATVs, plus a 1.5-mile water corridor for swimming and scuba diving.
The lakes within the park originated from former mining pits, creating an extensive network of waterways that now support fishing, kayaking, and aquatic activities.
