Fort Boonesborough State Park, Historical frontier fort in Madison County, United States.
Fort Boonesborough State Park is a state park with a reconstructed fort along the Kentucky River in Madison County. The grounds include log cabins, workshops, and palisade walls made from timber that replicate an early frontier settlement.
Settler Daniel Boone and a group of families built the fort starting in 1775 as an outpost in Kentucky territory. During the Revolution, residents defended the compound against attacks lasting several days.
Inside the fort, craftspeople work at looms and forge fires, showing techniques common in the late 18th century. Visitors watch clay being shaped by hand and tools formed from heated iron.
Most buildings and areas are accessible on foot, and trails connect different parts of the park. Walks along the river offer views of the water and surrounding forest.
During the siege, attackers dug a tunnel toward the fort walls to enter secretly. Heavy rain collapsed the tunnel before the plan could succeed.
