Fitton Field, Athletic stadium in Worcester, United States
Fitton Field is an athletic stadium on the Holy Cross campus with a three-sided horseshoe configuration that seats approximately 23,500 spectators. The structure features aluminum bleachers surrounding a natural grass playing surface equipped with modern irrigation systems.
The stadium opened in 1908 with wooden construction that was replaced by steel framework in 1924. A major renovation in 2016 updated the facilities and added specialized safety netting throughout the venue.
The stadium has served as a gathering place for the Holy Cross community for generations, hosting not just sports but also commencement ceremonies and campus celebrations. Its role in campus life reflects how the institution marks important moments and brings people together.
Visitors should note that the southern stands are taller than the northern section due to highway proximity affecting sightlines. Arriving early for events helps secure better seating positions, especially during major Holy Cross games.
President Theodore Roosevelt delivered one of his rare public speeches here in 1905 while touring Massachusetts. This uncommon event connected the stadium to a notable moment in American presidential history.
