General Nathanael Greene constructed this residence in 1770, serving as his home until 1776 when he departed to lead Continental Army forces during the Revolutionary War.
The property includes a cemetery where Revolutionary War soldiers who recovered from smallpox at the homestead during its time as a military hospital rest.
The homestead opens Friday through Monday from 10 AM to 5 PM, with admission prices of 8 dollars for adults and 4 dollars for children.
The original library room contains over 300 volumes, reflecting the intellectual interests of General Greene despite his limited formal education.
