Paine House

The Paine House is a two-and-a-half-story wooden building with multiple sections displaying Colonial-era architectural features. Inside, rooms are furnished with pieces and objects from that period.

The building was constructed in 1748 and served as a tavern starting in 1785 before taking the name of residents who arrived in the mid-1800s. These shifts show how the place's purpose changed over time.

The house reflects Colonial-era life and shows how people lived and worked in this area long ago. Its rooms display objects from that time, bringing the daily routines of the past to life.

The house sits on Station Street in Washington village and is reached by a straightforward road access. Tours are conducted on-site in groups and guided by staff who explain the rooms and furnishings.

The house was built partly using materials from an earlier sawmill that operated on this site in 1691. This shows the location was already a working site for production long before the house was built.
