Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, United States national cemetery in Schuylerville, New York.
Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery is a national military cemetery located in Schuylerville, in the state of New York. The grounds are divided into sections that offer different types of burial spaces, including traditional graves, lawn crypts, and niche walls.
This cemetery opened in 1999 as the 116th national cemetery of the United States. In 2002, President George W. Bush signed legislation that gave it the name it carries today, honoring a regional political figure.
A ship bell from the USS Saratoga and a granite memorial bearing the names of nearly 980 county veterans who died in military service stand on the grounds. These two monuments give visitors a tangible connection to the local military history of the region.
The grounds are open every day from sunrise to sunset and visitors can walk freely throughout. If you need help or information, staff are available at the office on weekdays during regular business hours.
The site was designed from the start to eventually hold around 175,500 veterans and their dependents. This kind of long-range planning sets it apart from many other national cemeteries across the country that have already reached capacity.
