Built between 1925 and 1928 by architect Martin Hedmark, the church received National Register of Historic Places designation in February 1984.
The congregation began with Swedish immigrants in 1890 and now includes members from Angola, Liberia, Tanzania, Portugal, Germany, Haiti, and many other nations.
