Providence Biltmore, National Historic skyscraper in Downtown Providence, US
The Providence Biltmore is an 18-story skyscraper with Greek Revival and Beaux-Arts architectural details on its exterior walls. The building combines classical design principles with contemporary hotel use and stonework in downtown Providence.
The building was designed by the architectural firm Warren and Wetmore in 1922 and was the tallest structure in the city for many years. Another skyscraper took that position in 1993.
The ballroom on the top floor keeps English decorative details and serves as an important gathering place for social events in the city.
Visitors can admire the building from outside and view its architectural details from different angles downtown. Its central location makes it easy to explore on foot alongside other historic structures in the area.
In its early years, the hotel operated a rooftop garden that supplied fresh flowers, vegetables, eggs, and poultry for the kitchens. This urban farming practice was unusual for a downtown hotel of that era.
