The church began in 1829 when 25 parishioners from St. John's Episcopal Church established a small congregation on Providence's west side.
The congregation evolved from serving Providence's Protestant population to welcoming members of different backgrounds, reflecting the city's changing demographics.
The church includes a parish house added in 1912, connected through narrow stairwells and passages to accommodate various community activities.
The cemetery, located a mile southwest, contains a granite receiving vault built into a raised mound and exhibits Greek Revival architecture from 1850.
