50 Kennedy Plaza, Postmodern skyscraper in Downtown Providence, United States.
50 Kennedy Plaza is a postmodern office tower in Downtown Providence, Rhode Island, with a facade made of green-reflective glass framed by granite. The building has 20 floors and is used as office space by several companies.
The building was completed in 1985 by the architecture firm Hellmuth, Obata and Kassabaum, during a period when Providence was renewing its downtown. It was one of several towers built around that time that reshaped the city center.
The building sits directly on Kennedy Plaza, the main public square of Providence, where buses stop and people pass through every day. Its green-tinted glass exterior makes it easy to spot from across the square.
The main entrance is on Westminster Street, right on Kennedy Plaza. Since this is a working office building, most of the interior is not open to the public.
Although the building stands about 285 feet (87 meters) tall, the granite framing breaks the glass surface into smaller sections, making it appear shorter than it actually is when seen next to nearby towers. This effect is especially noticeable when looking from Kennedy Plaza.
