Waterplace Park, Urban park in downtown Providence, United States.
Waterplace Park is an urban park in downtown Providence featuring walkways of cobblestone that line a river system with arched bridges inspired by Venetian design and illuminated pathways. The park spans between the downtown core and the East Side, offering multiple points of entry to reach the riverside area.
The park was created through the 1994 River Relocation Project, which transformed an old railroad junction into green space and revealed the Providence River that had been buried under pavement for decades. This project restored the city's visible connection to its waterway.
The park serves as a gathering space where different neighborhoods meet for concerts, art shows, and seasonal festivals throughout the year. These events create a shared sense of community and give the downtown area a lively social character.
The park offers multiple entry points with parking available nearby and convenient access to public transportation throughout the area. Visitors can explore different sections at their own pace, with the illuminated paths making navigation straightforward during evening visits.
WaterFire is a seasonal art installation featuring more than 80 floating braziers illuminated across the river during select evenings from May through November. This fire and light show transforms the riverfront into a distinctive evening experience that draws crowds.
