Market House, Historic marketplace in Market Square, Providence, United States.
The Market House stands as a three-story brick structure with large round arches on the first floor and a wooden balustrade on the third level.
Built between 1773 and 1775, the Market House served as barracks for French soldiers during the American Revolution and housed Providence's first Masonic Lodge.
The building was designed by Joseph Brown and Stephen Hopkins, with Hopkins later becoming one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence.
The Rhode Island School of Design maintains the Market House structure while preserving its exterior features according to preservation guidelines established in 1948.
Market House received electric street lights among the first locations in Providence, marking a transition into the modern era for this historical structure.
