Gloss Mountain State Park, State park in Fairview, Oklahoma, US
Gloss Mountain State Park is a nature preserve with elevated mesas and red soil layers topped with white gypsum and selenite crystals. The mineral formations create a distinctive landscape where bright deposits mark the terrain.
The park was established in 1997 to protect ancient rock formations that Native Americans once used as landmarks when traveling across Oklahoma. These geographical features have served as reference points for navigation across the region for many generations.
Local people come here to watch seasonal bird migrations, particularly eagles and buzzards passing through the region during certain times of the year. The walking trails offer chances to observe wildlife in their natural setting.
The park is open from sunrise to sunset with no entrance fee, offering restrooms, shelters, picnic tables, grills, and water sources. The available facilities make it easy to spend time outdoors and enjoy a full day visit.
The selenite crystals in the mountains reflect sunlight and create a glass-like shine that shifts throughout the day. Watching this effect at different times reveals how the minerals change their appearance based on the angle of light.
