Green Valley State Park, State park in Union County, Iowa, US.
Green Valley State Park is a 990-acre state park centered around a 390-acre lake in Union County with water and natural surroundings. Walking trails wind around the lake and through the surrounding wetlands, forests, and remaining prairie areas.
The park was created through special legislation in 1947 and officially dedicated in 1953. Its establishment came after a severe drought in the 1930s affected another lake in the nearby area.
The park serves as a gathering place where locals and visitors spend time fishing, hiking, and boating together on the water. The lakes and trails shape how people from the region enjoy their outdoor time and connect with one another.
The park has a campground with about 145 sites, with 85 offering electrical hookups, plus three rental cabins for overnight visitors. Modern restrooms and shower facilities are available throughout the grounds for comfort during longer stays.
The park is part of a network of four connected lakes spread across about 10 miles in southwest Iowa with different zones for water activities. Specific areas are set aside for water skiing, making this region a destination for that particular sport.
