Holliday Lake State Park, State park and historic site in Appomattox, Virginia, United States
Holliday Lake State Park is a forested recreation area in Appomattox with a lake covering 150 acres surrounded by hardwood forests. The grounds include hiking paths, camping areas, boat rentals, and fishing access throughout the 560-acre property.
The site was developed by Civilian Conservation Corps workers during the Great Depression and opened as a recreational area in 1938. This New Deal initiative transformed former farmland into public green space.
The park honors its origins through structures built in the 1930s by workers of the Civilian Conservation Corps, whose handiwork remains visible in stone walls and shelter designs that speak to Depression-era craftsmanship.
The best time to visit is from March through December when camping facilities are fully operational and recreation services run. The trails are easy to navigate and the grounds are accessible for visitors of different fitness levels.
The lake restricts motorized vessels, protecting water quality while creating ideal conditions for catching largemouth bass and bluegill. This policy allows for peaceful paddling and rowing in stable fish populations.
