Jackson's Mill State 4-H Camp Historic District, Historic 4-H camp district near Weston, West Virginia.
Jackson's Mill is a historic camp district with 23 buildings, 4 sites, 4 structures, and 2 objects spread across 74 acres near Weston. The grounds support youth education programs and host workshops and outdoor activities through educational facilities.
The site was founded in 1921 as the first statewide 4-H camp in the United States. Before that, it served as the home of General Thomas Jackson from 1831 to 1842.
The dining hall, assembly building, and main structures display Colonial Revival and American Craftsman styles from the 1920s and 1930s. These buildings shape how the grounds look and show the architectural choices made for community and learning spaces.
The grounds are open for visitors to explore the historic buildings and outdoor areas on foot. Plan time for a walking tour to see the various structures and the surrounding landscape.
The grounds feature Jackson Spring and the McWhorter Cabin from 1793, landmarks from different periods of settlement history. The Council Circle from 1922 shows how early camps designed their gathering spaces.
