Waldo Hotel

The Waldo Hotel is a seven-story Beaux-Arts building completed in 1904 in Clarksburg, featuring brick and terra cotta with classical architectural details throughout its symmetrical facade. Inside, the lobby impresses with a grand marble staircase more than 11 feet wide, mosaic tile floors, marble columns, and multiple balconies overlooking the main space.

Nathan Goff Jr. commissioned this hotel's construction between 1901 and 1904 during Clarksburg's period of rapid growth fueled by the coal industry. The building opened during a time of significant economic prosperity in the region.

The name comes from the nearby Waldo neighborhood and reflects the local area's identity. For many decades, this place served as a gathering point for business travelers and visitors passing through the growing industrial city.

The hotel is centrally located in Clarksburg and easy to reach on foot from downtown. Visitors can explore the impressive interior and architectural features while walking through the historic district.

The building had its own water filtration system and an ice plant that could produce over 450 kilograms of ice daily when it first opened. These features were quite advanced for the time and demonstrated the owner's commitment to modern amenities.
