James Cohan Gallery, Contemporary art gallery in Tribeca, Manhattan, US
James Cohan Gallery is a contemporary art gallery in Manhattan with two locations, one in Tribeca and one on the Lower East Side. Both spaces have an industrial feel, with large windows and open floors that can accommodate works of different scales.
The gallery opened in 1999 on West 57th Street and moved over the following years to its current spots in lower Manhattan. A branch in Shanghai ran for a period before closing.
The gallery shows work by artists from many countries, working across painting, sculpture, video, and installation. Visitors can walk freely through both locations and spend as much time as they like with each work.
Admission to both locations is free. It is worth checking the gallery website before visiting to see current opening hours and what is on show.
In 2024, the gallery joined five other galleries to turn an abandoned school in Columbia County, New York, into a shared art space called The Campus. This project shows that the team is interested in showing art in places that are very different from a standard gallery.
