The Fitzroy, Residential building in Chelsea, Manhattan, United States

The Fitzroy is a ten-story residential building at 514 West 24th Street in Chelsea, Manhattan, designed by Roman and Williams for Largo and JDS Development Group. It holds fourteen apartments, each with eleven-foot ceilings, and its facade is clad in terra cotta.

JDS Development bought the site at 514 West 24th Street for $35 million in 2014, with Largo as co-developer. A $57 million construction loan from Banco Santander and $17.5 million in preferred equity from First Key Residential financed the work. Ground broke in late 2015, the building topped out in June 2017, and construction finished in early 2019.

The name recalls Fitzroy Road, a Chelsea street that no longer exists. The building is one of several in New York completed around the same time that use terra cotta on their facades, alongside SHoP Architects' Steinway Tower and Kohn Pedersen Fox's One Vanderbilt.

This is a private residential building that can be viewed from the street to appreciate its architectural details. The best view of the distinctive facade is from across the street.

The exterior facade comprises approximately 5600 individually shaped green terra cotta blocks, each handcrafted through molding, scraping, carving, glazing, and firing. Every block is unique in its creation.
