Chelsea Piers, Sports and entertainment complex on Hudson River in Chelsea, Manhattan, United States.
Chelsea Piers is a sports and recreation complex along the Hudson River waterfront in Chelsea, Manhattan. The facility consists of several connected structures extending along the shore, containing swimming pools, ice rinks, bowling lanes, and fitness areas.
The piers served as transatlantic passenger terminals in the early twentieth century, welcoming ocean liners such as the RMS Lusitania from Europe. The RMS Carpathia also docked here following the Atlantic rescue operation, before the site stood vacant for decades and was later redeveloped.
The complex takes its name from a London district and now serves as a community hub for recreation and fitness along the waterfront. Families and athletes gather here year-round for classes, training sessions, and casual activities overlooking the river.
The complex opens daily in the early morning and closes late in the evening, with various membership plans and day passes available. Most areas are open to the public, though some activities require advance booking or registration.
A multi-level golf driving range allows players to hit balls toward the river while viewing the New Jersey skyline across the water. This setup is one of few found in a densely built urban center.
