Kiddieland Amusement Park, Amusement park in Melrose Park, Illinois, United States
Kiddieland Amusement Park was an amusement park in Melrose Park, Illinois that focused on younger visitors and occupied about eight hectares beside North Avenue. The grounds featured gentle rides such as small roller coasters, carousels, and a miniature railway that traveled through artificial landscapes.
The park opened in 1929 as a family-run facility and remained in operation for eight decades before closing permanently in 2009. After the land was sold, it was repurposed in 2011 for a Costco warehouse that fully replaced the original use.
The name Kiddieland referred to the target audience of the facility, designed specifically for children from toddlers to about ten years old. Parents and grandparents often brought multiple generations of the same family here, making the grounds a place where traditions were passed down.
The former grounds lie about 16 kilometers (10 miles) west of downtown Chicago in Melrose Park and are reachable by public transit or car. Today, a retail store occupies the site, so no access to the original facilities remains.
After closure, the Little Dipper roller coaster was dismantled and donated to another amusement park, where it continues to carry riders. The original entrance sign of the park was salvaged and now hangs in Melrose Park Public Library as a reminder of the vanished site.
