Knox County Courthouse
Knox County Courthouse, County courthouse in Knoxville, Tennessee, US.
The Knox County Courthouse on Main Street features stone facades, grand archways, and a prominent 2,500-pound bell in its Romanesque-style architecture.
Built in 1886 for $82,000, the courthouse served as Knox County's primary judicial center until 1980 when operations moved to the City-County Building.
Tennessee's first governor, John Sevier, rests beneath a monument placed in 1893 on the courthouse lawn, marking a significant memorial site.
The building houses multiple county departments and remains open for governmental functions, with access to offices through the main entrance on Main Street.
A federal blockhouse previously occupied the courthouse location, immortalized through a painting by artist Lloyd Branson.
