Kentucky Truck Assembly
Kentucky Truck Assembly is a large factory near Louisville that manufactures Ford heavy-duty trucks and SUVs. The facility spans over four million square feet and uses more than thirty miles of conveyor belts to move parts and vehicles through various production stages.
The plant opened in 1969 and has been a core part of Ford's manufacturing operations since then. Over the decades it has modernized with new technology and machinery while remaining a symbol of American vehicle production growth.
Public tours are not routinely available but special visitor permissions can be arranged. Parking is available nearby, and comfortable shoes are recommended since a tour involves walking through different sections of the large facility.
The factory has a giant red truck mounted on its roof as a landmark. During tours visitors can experience the test course where finished trucks drive over rough surfaces to check for noise and vibrations.
