Hamilton Ormsby built this residence in 1867, and the property was later transformed into a children's care facility. It became known as the Parental Home and School in 1912 and played a role in Kentucky's child welfare history.
The mansion and surrounding grounds served as a significant children's care facility, merging with the Louisville Industrial School of Reform to create the Louisville and Jefferson County Children's Home.
