Ledyard Bridge, Road bridge between Hanover and Norwich, United States
Ledyard Bridge spans the Connecticut River, connecting Hanover in New Hampshire to Norwich in Vermont. The current steel structure with concrete elements was built in 1999 and replaced earlier bridges at this crossing point.
The first toll-free bridge crossing the Connecticut River was built here in 1859 to connect both banks directly. Over time, structures were replaced and improved to handle growing traffic between the two states.
The bridge serves as part of a major hiking route connecting the two states. Walkers on long-distance trails cross here regularly as part of their journey through the mountains.
The bridge is accessible in both directions and carries local road connections plus regional traffic. Pedestrians and cyclists can also use it and find good access routes on both sides.
Large concrete balls decorate the corners of the modern structure, giving it an unusual appearance. These ornaments were added as part of the 1999 reconstruction project.
