Lincoln Hall

Lincoln Hall is an academic building on the University of Illinois Main Quad and displays ten exterior panels depicting events from Abraham Lincoln's life. The structure showcases Georgian Revival architecture and contains multiple classrooms and department offices spread throughout.

The Illinois State Legislature approved funding in 1909 for the building's construction, which opened in February 1913. This project was part of the university's expansion and a desire to honor the historical president.

The building houses the Communication and Sociology departments and serves as a central hub for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. These disciplines shape daily campus life and show how the structure functions within the broader academic community.

After 2012 renovations, the building received upgrades including air conditioning, wireless networks, and modern audiovisual equipment in classrooms. Visitors today can experience improved facilities and easy navigation through well-equipped academic spaces.

Students maintain a tradition of rubbing the nose of the Lincoln bronze bust at the entrance for academic success before exams. This charming student ritual has been passed down through many generations.
