The stadium opened in 1996 and bears the name of Louis Crews, who led the Alabama A&M football program as head coach from 1960 to 1975.
The stadium hosts home games for Alabama A&M Bulldogs football team, university commencement ceremonies, track competitions, and local high school sporting events.
The 21,000-seat facility includes 14,000 seats in the home grandstand, 7,000 in the visitor section, and 19 skyboxes accommodating between 16 to 50 people each.
In 2023, the stadium installed an innovative FieldTurf surface using coconut husks instead of rubber pellets to reduce field temperature during games.
