Long Island Game Farm, Children's zoo and wildlife park in Manorville, New York, US.
Long Island Game Farm is a family-oriented zoo located in Manorville, on the eastern part of Long Island, New York. The grounds are open-air and spread across a large rural property, with enclosures housing buffalo, camels, chimpanzees, deer, goats, lambs, and exotic birds.
The farm was founded in 1970 by Stanley and Diane Novak, who built it from the ground up on rural land in Manorville. Over the decades it grew steadily, adding new animals and expanding its role as a place for children to learn about wildlife.
Visitors can hand-feed animals in several areas of the farm, which makes the experience feel more personal than a typical zoo visit. The goat and lamb petting areas are especially popular with young children.
The entire site is explored on foot, so comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing are a good idea. Weekday visits tend to be quieter than weekends, which can make moving around with young children easier.
Many of the animals living at the farm were rescued or rehabilitated before arriving there, which means the site also functions as a sanctuary. Visitors who feed or interact with the animals are in a sense taking part in their ongoing care.
