Marshallville Historic District, Historic district in Cape May County, New Jersey.
Marshallville Historic District is a place covering about 85 acres in Cape May County with several buildings from the Federal period. The structures stand at the intersection of Marshallville Road and County Route 557 and form a group from the glassmaking era.
The area was founded in 1814 when Randall Marshall and Frederick Stanger built a glass factory here focused on making window glass. The settlement grew around this factory and became an important manufacturing center for the region.
The main house from the early 1800s shows how factory owners lived and what role glassmaking played in this community. The building style reflects the wealth that glass manufacturers had gained at that time.
The site is best explored on foot since the main buildings are spread across a short distance. It is best to arrive by car since the region is rural and public transportation is limited.
The area combined glass production with water-based activities, using local sand and waterways to move raw materials around. This connection between industry and local resources shaped how the place developed.
