Macedonia Church, Historic Baptist church in Burlington, Ohio.
The wooden church building stands on Macedonia Ridge with a stone foundation, weatherboard siding, three side windows, and a short bell tower.
The church originated in 1849 when freed slaves from Virginia joined local Baptists to establish a congregation on land near Burlington.
The building served as a central gathering place for the local Black community and led to the creation of eight additional churches in the region.
The structure is undergoing a major renovation project scheduled for completion in fall 2024, including improvements to doors, windows, and electrical systems.
Macedonia Church holds the distinction of being Ohio's only remaining antebellum Black church and participates in the National Underground Railroad Network.
