Mercersburg Academy

Mercersburg Academy is a private boarding school in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania, located about 20 miles south of Chambersburg. The campus covers 300 acres and includes classroom buildings, student dormitories, athletic fields, and the Burgin Center for the Arts beside the Irvine Memorial Chapel.

The institution began as Marshall College in 1836 and later moved to other towns before returning to Mercersburg in 1865. In 1893, it was reorganized as Mercersburg Academy and has served as a preparatory school since then.

The school maintains a global student population from 44 countries, with 20% international students and 41% students of color in its enrollment.

The campus sits in a rural area surrounded by rolling hills and woodlands that offer walking paths. Visitors should note that this is an active school, so access and touring options are often limited.

The Irvine Memorial Chapel houses a Swoope Carillon with 50 bells, one of the largest at an American school. The bells ring during concerts and special occasions and shape the sound of the campus.
