Mellus Newspapers Building, Art Deco newspaper building in Lincoln Park, Michigan

The Mellus Newspapers Building on Fort Street is a Moderne-style structure with white porcelain enamel panels and curved glass block sections framing its exterior. A mid-century addition doubled its floor space to support growing operations for the publications housed within.

The building was constructed in 1941 by William S. Mellus to house his newspaper operation. Print production ended in 1986 when the publications merged with a larger media company.

The building housed several local newspapers that distributed news to different neighborhoods across the region. The spaces show how important print media was for community communication.

The building sits on a main street with good visibility and is easy to access from nearby areas. Its distinctive Moderne design and prominent glass elements make it recognizable even from a distance.

The building served as a printing hub for multiple newspapers across different communities rather than housing just one publication. This multi-title operation made it unusual for such a relatively small building in the area.
